PML-N, PTI reject PPPs call to put off rallies

LAHORE - While the PPP has announced to cancel all its political activities for 40 days to mourn the death of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, the PML-N and PTI have rejected its call to postpone their planned rallies in Lahore. Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Raja Riaz made this appeal to the two parties at a news conference here on Monday. He said Nusrat Bhutto was Madar-e-Jamhooriat, as she struggled for many years against dictatorship. 'The PPP is mourning her death and cancelled its political rallies in Punjab. It will be better if PML-N and PTI also did the same, he said while making an appeal to the two parties. He further argued that though it was basic right of all political parties to hold public meetings, but since late Nusrat Bhutto was mother of the entire nation, political parties should postpone their rallies to mourn her death. He also thanked Sharif brothers for declaring Monday as public holiday in line with Federal govts announcement. He said the decision would go a long way in promoting politics of reconciliation. In response to PPPs call, Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah said that PML-N will go ahead with its planned rally. He said that it would not be in the countrys interest to give more time to the corrupt elements who were on looting spree under the leadership of President Zardari. He said that PML-Ns 'Go-Zardari-Go campaign would continue as planned including its October 28th rally in Lahore. The PTI leadership has also announced that its planned rally at Minar-i-Pakistan on October 30th will be held as per schedule. Partys Lahore President Mehmoodur Rashid, has, however, announced three-day mourning over the death of Nusrat Bhutto. Meanwhile, PML-N and PTI have chalked out plans to holding more corner meetings in the City to mobilise party workers for their rallies to be held on October 28th and October 30th respectively. The PML-N has decorated important crossings in the metropolis with large posters and hoardings depicting pictures of Sharifs ahead of the rally. Its Parliamentarians are also busy addressing corner meetings and big public gatherings in different parts of the City for the last over one week in connection with the coming event. These activities are likely to continue in the coming days. The PTI leadership has also assigned different tasks to party workers to make their show a success vis--vis that of the PML-N at Nasir Bagh on October 28th.
