BAJAUR AGENCY - Speakers at a seminar on the World Polio Day have called upon the local health department and the World Health organisation to accelerate efforts for raising public awareness about anti-polio vaccination campaign in the agency.
The seminar was arranged by the local health deportment in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) here at the agency headquarters hospital on Thursday. Large numbers of tribal elders, religious scholars, health experts, representatives of the World Health Organisation and UNICEF and senior officials of the local administration and health deportment were participated in the seminar.
The speakers included Additional Political Agent Imran Hameed Sheikh, Agency surgeon Dr Zakir Hussain, ex-MNA Syed Akhunzada Chattan and Rafiq Ahamed from Unicef highlighted the importance of World polio day in creating awareness among the tribesmen for fight against the deadly disease.
The speakers expressed concern over the increasing of refusal cases and low coverage of vaccination in the agency and urged the officials to take serious notice of the issues. They also showed displeasure over the officials of the local health department and the World Health Organisation for ignoring the tribal elders, the religious scholars and social activists in the public awareness activities for the removal of negative concepts of vaccination.
