LAHORE - A member of the Punjab Assembly from PML-N Haroon Sultan, who was drunk, badly tortured his pregnant wife at their Cavalry Ground residence and later fled away. A police contingent is conducting raids to arrest the accused, police sources said late on Friday night. Fatima Bibi, the victim, had been admitted to the Services Hospital in critical condition as the Parliamentarian from Muza-ffargarh thrashed, punched and kicked his wife after midnight on Thursday. Fatima Bibi is said to be the daughter of renowned politician late Syed Sajjad Haider Bukhari. 'He was drunk late night and exchanged harsh words with my daughter and later badly tortured her, Mrs Syed Sajjad Haider Bukhari, mother of the victim told the police. The North Cantonment police has registered a case (under Section 506/B PPC) against the MPA Haroon Sultan Bukhari and his brother Basit Sultan on the complaint of the victims mother. Doctors said that the woman might lose her pregnancy as the MPA hit her in the belly. The complainant further told the police that she tied the knot of her daughter with the MPA some three months back and gave dowry worth millions of rupees including gold ornaments. 'We thought he is a gentleman but he is morally corrupt. He is a regular drunker and has illicit relations with bad women. He often tortures my daughter, the widow told the police investigators outside the Services Hospital. The police later raided the residence of the MPA but he alongwith his brother managed to escape. Further investigations were underway.
