Sewer-mixed water threat to public health

RAHIM YAR KHAN - The dirty water from a pond is getting mixed with the water being supplied to the people for drinking in Chak 78-P, posing a serious threat to the residents' health. The dirty water gets mixed with the drinkable water through the damaged part of the pipelines. The situation can cause breakout of diseases.The big pond of the dirty water is situated in the eastern side of Union Council Taranda Saway Khan. Rainwater is accumulated in the pond whenever rain falls. The pond does not have any boundary walls due to which it has turned into a lake.Health Department has declared the pond water injurious to health and for its solution they informed the TMA on which nothing has been done so far. It can become the cause of contagious diseases like malaria, hepatitis, gastro and dengue. Zahid Iqbal, a resident, told the media that the pond's dirty water was getting mixed with the drinkable water and this may become the reason of diseases outbreak. Faqeer Muhammad, another villager, said that his house is near the pond and its water enters his home.When contacted, Rahim Yar Khan TMA Chaudhry Arshad Waraich said that he had ordered to the officials concerned to drain out the water towards the nearby fields. He said that he had also sought a report in this regard.
