Book Fair makes Rs10m business in two days

KARACHI The five-day, 6th Karachi International Book Fair 2010 has made huge business of worth Rs10 million approximately during the last two days, which is being considered as vital sign for further business in the next three days of the fare, The Nation has learnt reliably. Massive crowd rushed to the book fare on the second day, taking an advantage of public holiday on December 25th; the huge mob created problems for organisers, who were not expecting such an enormous participation from the citizens, an official informed. Such enormous participation of citizens in the fare had accelerated the pace of business in the fare on the second day, he said and added that trade of books might earn millions of rupees in this fare. The 6th Karachi International Book Fair 2010 was organised by the Pakistan Publishers and Book Sellers Association (PPBA) at the Karachi Expo Centre, which was considered one of the most prestigious and largest events in the country. When Zonal Chairman of PPBA, Aziz Khalid, contacted by The Nation, he was declined to comment on the worth of business but he confirmed that the massive participation from all segment of the society had speedup the trade of books in the fare. He said that if the participation trend remained as per earlier two days in the next three days, then the massive business could be done. It is worth mentioning here that around 250,000 people are expected to attend the event in which a business of millions of rupees expected to be done. Publishers from Singapore, Iran, the Britain, Malaysia and India are participating in the book fair.
