QUETTA - A group of armed men kidnapped eight coalminers from Shahrag area of Harnai district, 160 kilometers from Quetta, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to a district administration officer, the coalminers were asleep in their makeshift camp when armed men surrounded the camp and abducted eight coalminers at gunpoint. “A search has been started for the recovery of abductees, however, the administration is clueless so far about the abductors,” official said, adding that Baloch armed groups could be behind the incident. Abducted coalminers belong to Khyber-Pakhtunkwa.
Sources said a few weeks ago Baloch insurgents had hurled threat to coalminers to stop extracting coals of Balochistan and their carriage to Punjab. Previously, Baloch armed groups had also attacked trucks transporting coal to Punjab in Loralai district.Administration has registered a case and started investigation into the incident, however, no group have claimed responsibility for abduction of coalminers so far.
LEVIES SEIZES HUGE CACHE OF WEAPONS IN MASTUNG
Levis Force seized a huge cache of weapons in Mastung area of Balochistan which was being smuggled in a pick-up on Wednesday reportedly to Karachi, the local administration said.
Talking to media, the Deputy Commissioner Mastung Mehrab Shah said that acting on a tip-off, Levis Force started searching the vehicles on a check-post in Kardgap area of district Mastung.
In the meanwhile, suspects abandoned a pick-up vehicle laden with arms and ammunition and fled to the nearby mountains. The arms were reportedly being smuggled to Karachi, he said and added that as many as 62 Kalashnikovs, 2 binoculars, 30 pistols, 2 licences and other arms were recovered from the vehicle probably being taken to be used in subversive activities.
He said the pick-up vehicle was under the custody of the Levis and a search for the suspects was underway.
In yet another incident, police foiled a bid of subversive act by defusing two mortar shells after locating them in a litter tab.
Police, acting on a tip-off in the proximity of the Quaidabad Police Station of the provincial capital, found a suspected bag in a litter tab and called bomb disposal squad. The BDS found two mortar shells, including their fuses in the tab and defused both of them.
