Taseer’s ex-wife sacked from post

LAHORE – The government has terminated once again the services of Deputy Attorney General of Lahore High Court Yasmin Saigol, the ex-wife of slain Punjab Governor Sal-maan Taseer. The Law Ministry has issued the termination notification of senior woman lawyer, stating that the government does not require her services any more.
Ms Saigol was appointed as DAG in February 2008 but was sacked by the government in 2009 on the ‘recommendations’ of former law minister Babar Awan. However, President Asif Ali Zardari had withdrawn the notification of her termination on protest by Salmaan Taseer and she was reappointed as DAG for the principal seat of Lahore High Court.
Talking to TheNation, Ms Saigol said Babar Awan again conspired to remove her from her post because she had denied giving ‘protocol’ to such a person who had no respect for the Federation’s lawyer. Senior deputy attorney generals and standing counsels expressed displeasure over the termination of Ms Saigol and urged President Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to withdraw the decision of her removal. “It will give wrong massage to the public that Pakistan People’s Party has no respect for the family members of its former party leader, late Salmaan Taseer,” they said, requesting anonymity. Ms Saigol also served at least for 10 years as assistant advocate general Punjab and two and a half years as deputy prosecutor general Punjab for the Supreme Court. She has three children: Shaan Taseer, Sara Taseer and Sanam Taseer. She has also filed a law suit, seeking share in the property of her late husband.
