GUJRAT - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while enquiring after the health of a 10-year-old boy whose arms were chopped off by a landlord, ordered the Punjab Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident immediately.
The Punjab CM visited Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital here in Gujrat where he met 10-year Tabassum Shahzad and his family on Friday.
On July 15, a landlord, identified as Ghulam Mustafa alias Nomi, had allegedly beat up the boy, burnt him with scalding hot water and chopped off his arms, following a dispute with his father over electricity theft.
Unhappy aver the delay in the registration of a FIR against the culprit, the Punjab chief minister reprimanded the police officials.
Shahbaz Sharif also suspended the ASP, DSP concerned and medical superintendent of the hospital.
Mustafa - who was arrested during a police raid - was produced in anti-terrorism court on Friday whereupon the court remanded him into the police custody for 10 days.
Referring to the incident, Mustafa in court said that “he did not do it intentionally and it was mistake”.
It is to be recalled that the landlord, after beating the boy, took him to a private hospital on Bhambar Road, where he tried to hush up the crime. He had also donated blood for the boy.
However, as father of the boy found out about his son’s condition, he tried to file an FIR against the landlord in the Gujrat Cantt Police Station. He claimed that SHO Shaukat Taupa had told him he (SHO) could not file a case without a medical report.
After the Punjab chief minister took notice of the incident and sought a report from top police officials.
