KARACHI/LONDON  - The Sindh High Court on Monday issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the federation and the attorney general on separate petitions filed by Pakistan People’s Party and MQM against delimitations in Karachi.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Deputy Convener Farooq Sattar, in its petition, called the delimitations illegal, unconstitutional and a deep conspiracy. He said Karachi was being punished for supporting MQM.
Farog Naseem, counsel for MQM, said in the court the delimitations in Karachi were illegal after the announcement of the election schedule. He prayed to the court to declare delimitations void.
Earlier, PPP also moved the SHC, challenging delimitation of constituencies in the Karachi city. The delimitations were not only against the order of the Supreme Court but also against the law, PPP said in its petition.
Meanwhile, dubbing delimitation of Karachi constituencies a conspiracy to divide the vote bank of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the party supremo, Altaf Hussain, called upon his workers to inform the international organisations of the ‘illegal’ move through writing letters across the world.
Speaking to the party workers and the organising committee at the MQM International Secretariat, Altaf said a conspiracy was being hatched against his party at the government level to break the MQM vote bank. He warned the government against taking such unilateral decision.
