QUETTA - Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulifqar Ali Magsi on Tuesday asked law-enforcement agencies to discharge their duties courageously for protection of the masses without any fear.
Presiding over a meeting held to review the law and order situation in the province in general and Quetta in particular, the governor said the security agencies should work coherently toward this end, and added that everyone should work for prosperity, development and well-being of the province. “We have to proceed by putting mutual differences on the back burner,” the governor remarked.
Magsi said the state should enforce its writ cohesively and should take action against miscreants without any discrimination. He said no officer was a personal employee of anybody; therefore, they should work and render their duties honestly.
Stressing the need for preserving order in the provincial capital, the governor ordered a ban on wall-chalking and removing of all posters from the roadsides. He claimed the law and order situation had improved after the imposition of the Governor’s Rule in the province.
The governor also noted the law-enforcement agencies carried out 129 raids in connection with targeted operations in the province in which a huge cache of weapons and explosives were recovered and many suspects were arrested.
The Balochistan governor said he had issued directives for payment of remuneration to the dependants of the Hazara Town blast victims and had also asked for estimating property losses incurred in the incident.
He said a layman could only keep licenced arms with themselves for their protection, adding that now the election commission had permitted recruitments in Police; therefore, recruitments should immediately be made in the Police Department. He also issued directives for protection of pilgrims, and added the federal government had been proposed to initiate an air service to Iran from mega cities of Pakistan for pilgrims.
Among others, Frontier Corps IG Major-General Ubaidullah Khan, Home Secretary Akbar Durani, Balochistan Police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, the Quetta commissioner and other attended the meeting.
