ISLAMABAD - Pir Syed Karam Ali Shah has been appointed as Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan on the advice of the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. Pir karam Ali Shah is a veteran politician, who was first elected unopposed as member of the Northern Areas Advisory Council in 1970. Later on he joined Pakistan Peoples Party in 1972. Till to date he is the member NA Council, NA Legislative Assembly. Pir Syed karam Ali Shah has been appointed governor Gilgit-Baltistan after Dr Shama Khalid who died on Sept 15, 2010. Maqbool Malik adds: Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the co-chairperson of the ruling PPP, has in principle decided to appoint party loyalists as governors in the provinces. Well-placed sources told The Nation that the recent appointment of Sardar Latif Khosa as governor Punjab and Pir Mukrarram Ali Shah as governor Gilgit-Baltistan were part of the same policy. Both of them are old party comrades. Similarly, PPP wants to have party loyalists as new governors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as in Balochistan despite the fact the incumbent governors Owais Ghani and Nawab Zulfikar Magsi have been running affairs of their respective provinces quite successfully. Sources informed that PPP would change both of them once it found suitable replacements.
