PESHAWAR – A prominent Taliban commander was killed during a police encounter in Mashogagar area in the outskirts of Peshawar on Tuesday morning.
Sources said the incident occurred when police flagged down a vehicle carrying some suspected militants. Instead of stopping the vehicle, militants tried to manage their escape and opened fire on police team. Retaliating to the firing, police also opened fire and killed a militant identified as Umar on the spot, while three militants made their escape. Police also recovered a hand grenade, pistol and cartridges from the possession of the killed person. During a search operation, police also arrested three suspected persons. The arrested ones were being interrogated. Police registered FIR against the escaped militants and started investigation.
Meanwhile, city police Peshawar recovered a kidnapped woman, resident of Dargai, district Charsadda, and arrested the alleged kidnaper. Police said a woman Mumtaz, son of Sherbaz, registered a report with Sir Derai Police Station stating that Jehanzeb had kidnapped his daughter Saima Gul to arrange a forced married from Charsadda and taken her to Peshawar.
Chief Capital City Police Imtiaz Iltaf took notice of the incident and ordered SHO Badhbera to conduct raid in his jurisdiction. Police raided the residence of Jehanzeb in Babusar area and recovered the kidnapped woman, who was tied with chains. Police also arrested Jehanzeb and registered FIR against him.
