Nisar to chair crucial PAC meeting on 30th

ISLAMABAD - Discussing heavy agenda items including the report for the year 1990 to 2010, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will be held on September 30. The crucial meeting will be chaired by leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan to discuss the seven-point agenda. According to the agenda items, report for the year 1990-91, 1992-93, 1994-95,1997-98, 2001-02, 2008-09 and monitoring and implementation committees annual report 2010 will be deliberated upon in detail. Heated debate is likely on the agenda items related to monitoring and implementation committees annual report 2010, said a PAC member, desiring not to be named. Around six members of PAC have requisitioned the session, which was reportedly not accepted. The requisition submitted sans mentioning of any proper date was the main objection, the sources said. Earlier, Nisar in his press conference had said that no requisition was received in the National Assembly Secretariat but PAC meeting will be summoned soon. It is also relevant to mention here that under the article 54(3) of the Constitution PAC chairman is bound to convene meeting within 14 days of the receipt of the requisition by his secretariat. It is relevant to mention here that PAC Chairman had expressed serious reservations over non-compliance of PAC directives by the government and recent appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as Auditor General. Having serious reservation, he had also hinted to resign from this slot but later he on the advice of his party, PML-N, leadership changed his decision. It was also learnt that another five PAC members from PML-N including Pervez Malik, Ayaz Sadiq, Khwaja Asif and Zahid Hamid were also ready to follow Ch Nisar on his any of decision. Nisar had also dissolved all the PAC special committees and sub-committees saying that no special or sub-committees of the PAC could hold any meetings before a proper meeting of the PAC itself. Another reason for his possible resignation might be the non-submission of report about the alleged involvement of three former army generals - in the multi-billion rupees National Logistic Cell (NLC) scam, said sources. It was also reported that the name of former Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira was also on cards if PML-N leader Ch Nisar decided to resign from PAC membership.
