ISLAMABAD- Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has highly lauded the role and efforts of ISI in ensuring the protection and defence of the country and said all the institutions will continue to work in synergy for protection of public and to counter internal and external threats.
Chairing a high level meeting that reviewed the national security today, the Prime Minister said the whole nation pays tribute to the officers and Jawans of ISI for their sacrifices for the defence of the motherland.
The PM expressed his serious concern over increase in incidents of terrorism and pointed out that the purpose of initiating of dialogue with Taliban was to ensure establishment of peace. He vowed that no one would be allowed to play with the lives of innocent people. He called upon all institutions of the country to work together and protect the people of Pakistan. The PM said that economic development depended on peace and the government would ensure peace to put the country on the path of development.
Interior Minister apprised the participants that during the last meeting between dialogues committee, it was emphasized that all-encompassing talks would be conducted with the Taliban Shura and it was high time that the dialogue process achieved tangible results.
There was unanimous consensus among all the participants that the dialogue process with Taliban would have a concise agenda and dialogue should take place under well defined parameters. Serious apprehensions were expressed over recent terrorism incidents and commitment to take effective action against the perpetrators behind such incidents was reiterated.
DG ISI briefed the PM about measures taken after recent terrorist attacks and about the overall security situation of the country. The DG ISI assured that those involved in recent terrorism incidents would be brought to justice and their identity revealed to the people of Pakistan. The country’s civilian and military leadership also discussed the situation in Afghanistan post presidential elections. The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Zaheerul-Islam, special assistant to the PM Syed Tariq Fatemi, Secretary to PM Mr. Javaid Aslam and Additional Secretary to PM Mr. Fawad Hassan Fawad.
