LAHORE - Thousands of people from all walks of life on Sunday attended Qul of veteran journalist and Nawa-i-Waqt Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami who passed away in the wee hours of Saturday.
Qul was held at the residence of Majid Nizami at Mason Road. Dua for the departed soul was led by Allama Dr Raghib Naeemi. Mufti Intekhab Ahmed recited the holy Quran while Marghoob Ahmed Hamdani and Akhtar Hussain Qureshi presented Naats.
Politicians, journalists, civil society members, retired judges, doctors, engineers and people from other walks of life attended in large numbers. Prominent among them were PM’s adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz, SBP ex-governor Shahid Kardar, PML-Q leaders Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and SM Zafar, The Nation Editor Salim Bokhari, Nawa-i-Waqt General Manager Mujahid Hussain Syed, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami, Shoaib Nizami, Khabrain Editor Zia Shahid, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari and ANP Secretary General Ehsan Wyne.
The other dignitaries included political secretary to PM Dr Asif Kirmani, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Federal Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir, provincial ministers Bilal Yaseen and Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, PML-N MNA Pervaiz Malik, PML-N leader Ghulam Dastageer, Punjab Assembly opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, former foreign minister Khursheed Kasuri and former Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa.

On Sunday, a large number of people including PML-Q chief Ch Shujaat Hussain, Ch Pervaiz Elahi, PPP leader Qasim Zia and Sardar Latif Khosa also visited Dr Majid Nizami’s residence to express their condolence with his daughter Rameeza Majid Nizami. The visitors lauded the services of Majid Nizami in the field of journalism and for the country.
