PESHAWAR - Criticising the federal government for its decision to call in the army to secure the federal capital, Quami Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Sherpao on Sunday said the rulers were acting in panic.
“It seems that the government is worried over the August 14 march of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). We oppose the decision to summon the army troops in the capital,” he said in a statement. He added the decision showed the government had no trust in the civilian law-enforcement agencies. “Our law-enforcement agencies are quite capable of maintaining the law and order and there is no need to summon the army,” he said.
Sherpao said the government had no plan to deal with the protest of the PTI. He believed that such decisions would benefit the detractors of the government and would damage its credibility.
“The PTI protest doesn’t pose any threat to the government and the rulers should not overreact to it,” he maintained. He said the PTI rulers had failed to deliver and they were now indulging in non-issues to divert the attention from the problems being faced by the poor people in KP. He said the PTI had not brought any change or improvement in the working of a single government department.
