KHYBER AGENCY - A Nato supply truck driver was killed while his helper sustained injuries, when militants ridding on motorcycles attacked the vehicle near bypass road of tehsil Jamrud, sub-division of Khyber Agency, official sources said on Monday.
The sources said that the Nato supply vehicle bearing registration (TLL-634) was on its way to Torkham from Peshawar when it was intercepted by unknown armed persons, riding on motorcycles, and opened indiscriminate firing on it. “Resultantly the driver of the vehicle was killed while its conductor got injured,” sources said. They said that six other persons were also slightly wounded when two containers collided against each other during the firing incident. “Soon after the incident, the Khasadar and officials of political administration rushed to the spot, cordoned off the whole area and shifted the body and injured to a nearby hospital,” sources said.
The deceased was identified as Lajber son of Mian Said, an Afghan national and the wounded conductor was Saleem, resident of Landi kotal. They said that four suspected persons were arrested in this regard and sent to Jamrud lock-up for investigation.
Meanwhile, a roadside planted IED was detonated at Sur Kamar area of Jamrud, however no causality was reported, official sources said.
They said that the security forces launched search operation in the area and many suspected persons were taken into custody. They said that a local Jamrud-based reporter Amjad Afridi was also arrested during the search operation.
Separately, four persons were wounded in an accident between two cars in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency.
