Former AJK Prime Minister and top PPP AJK leader Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry on Saturday called upon the international community to help resolve Kashmir issue by playing due role without further delay to avert the permanent threat of nuclear conflict between the arch nuclear rivals-India and Pakistan.
He was addressing Kashmir Conference held here under the auspices of AJK Supreme Court Bar Association on Saturday.
AJK Supreme Court Bar Association President Raja Fazal Hussain Rabbani presided over the conference. Eminent Kashmiri leaders including Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League President Justice (r) Abdul Majeed Mallick, PML-N AJK Senior Vice President Ch Tariq Farooq, Syed Yousaf Naseem, Mirpur DBA President Sardar Ijaz Nazir, Jammu & Kashmir People’s Party Chief Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, Jammu & Kashmir People’s National Party Secretary General Raja Zulfiqar, Chairman Tehreek-e-Noujawanan Pakistan Muhammad Abdullah Gul, Bhimbher District Bar Association President Raja Mazher Hussain and others also addressed the conference.
On the occasion, speakers emphasized the need for early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of people of Jammu & Kashmir enshrined in the UN resolutions. “It is enjoined upon both India and Pakistan to ensure early peaceful settlement of Kashmir problem through composite tripartite dialogue involving the Jammu & Kashmir people without further loss of time”, they urged adding that Pakistan had already moved for peaceful settlement of the long-standing issue through composite talks.
Supporting the early resumption of meaningful dialogue, Barrister Sultan also suggested for holding broad-based national and International Kashmir Conference and Intra-Kashmir meetings between the people of Jammu & Kashmir living either side of the Line of control (LoC) to discuss and exchange ideas for devising an integrated strategy to pave the way for early peaceful resolution of the Kashmir conflict.
“It is need of the hour to play due role by all communities including lawyers to raise exceptional importance of early settlement of Kashmir question through holding of Kashmir conference both at home and abroad to muster maximum sympathies of the international community for the right to self-determination of over 16 million people of Jammu & Kashmir”, Sultan urged.
Sultan that the valiant people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir had yet provided a chance to the international community, through launching the peaceful freedom struggle since 2008, to help resolved the Kashmir dispute through peaceful manner.
He underlined that during his recent visits abroad including various European countries in the backdrop of the sensitivity of Kashmir dispute and the rapid global developments, he found a positive response and interest of the international community vis-à-vis early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir problem in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
Sultan said that he would continue raising the Kashmir question at international level as maximum as possible to muster the sympathies of the comity of nations for the early settlement of the Kashmir issue for emergence of everlasting peace in South Asia.
