HAFIZABAD - The growers of the area have protested against the increase in the price of urea fertilizers and have called on the provincial as well as the federal government to ensure availability of urea according to their requirements at suitable rates. Addressing a press conference, Kissan Board Pakistan Central Rice Committee Chairman Amaullah Chattha said that price of urea has been increased from Rs1400 to 2000 per bag which is intolerable for common grower. He maintained that the fertilizers factories have deliberately decreased their production in order to mint money. He further said that although imported urea has reached the market but stockists with the collusion of administration are indulging in black market. He demanded that recent hike in POL prices, power tariff, GST on agricultural inputs have already broken the back of small growers while the rise in urea prices had further burdened them. He said that if timely action was not taken to curb the profiteering, the paddy output would be decreases resulting in the loss to foreign exchange earnings. He called for prompt steps to bring down the prices of urea to maximise paddy production. PPP demands probe into wastage of public funds: PPP District leader Malik Phool Ahmad Awan has called on the DCO and the Punjab CMs inspection team to order a probe into the wastage of public funds during the execution of different uplift projects particularly metalling, resurfacing and PCC. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Malik Phool alleged that substandard material was used on the behest of EDO-Works / Highway. He claimed that he with MPA Malik Fayyaz Ahmad Awan had brought the issue in the notice of the DCO but no inquiry could be conducted in this regard. He said that the district administration fully satisfied with the execution of works but the public here is least satisfied. Moreover, he said that Rs3500,000 pesticides had been reportedly purchased by the EDO-Health in June last but no one in the city has noticed fumigations in any part of the city. He also demanded a probe into the irregularities and bungling being committed in the Health Department. He urged the district government authorities to ensure the availability of medicines to the patients promptly and free of cost. He stressed the need for complete overhauling of the Health Department for improving performance of the DHQ hospital.He also urged the DPO and DIG Gujranwala to take prompt and stringent measure to check day-to-day bike, car snatching and dacoity incidences in the area. Two women kill on Motorway: Two women were killed while two others including a woman were seriously injured when a speeding bus hit their car on motorway the other night. According to motorway police sources, Majid along with three ladies were on way to Toba Tek Singh in his car. When he reached on M-3 (Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad Section), a speeding bus coming from behind hit the rear of their car. As a result the car overturned. Ishrat Bibi, Zeb-un-Nisa, Liaba and Majid were seriously injured. They were rushed to hospital where Ishrat Bibi and Zebun Nisa succumbed to their wounds. PML-N names Saira Afzal Tarar as district president: Saira Afzal Tarar (daughter-in-law of former president of Pakistan Rafiq Tarar) and Advocate Shahbaz Ahmad Khan have been nominated as president and General Secretary respectively of the Pakistan Muslim League-N Hafizabad district. The party workers appreciated the decision of PML leadership in honouring an old, dedicated and sincere worker for the slot of district general secretary. A public meeting was held in Sukheke Mandi in which PML N City President Malik Tajammal Raza Chaudhary congratulated Nawaz Sharif for nominating Shahbaz Khan as general secretary. He expressed hope that in future dedicated and sincere party workers would be honoured. He also congratulated Nawaz Sharif on his unopposed election as President PML-N, and expressed his full confidence in his leadership.
