Cops put on alert to thwart terror

Keeping in view the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azab in North Waziristan, the district police have evolved a comprehensive security plan to avert any untoward incident on Eidul Fitr. Sources said that all Station House Officers (SHOs) are issued directions to ensure strict control on aerial firing and launch crackdown on those riding motorbikes without number plates or showing stunts like one-wheeling. The orders for on-spot arrest of those teasing women and families are also issued to the cops.
Meanwhile, pickets were set up at all entry and exit points of the city to keep eye on suspicious elements. Similarly, cops are deployed at all important places for the security of Eid congregations. The police are going to install walk through gates at the entry points of all such masjids and imam bargahs that were declared sensitive. Sources said that the citizens would be frisked with metal detectors before their entry to Eidgahs.
Meanwhile, the Eid holidays of sanitation staff of WASA as well as emergency staff of government hospitals have been cancelled. The Wasa staffers will remain on duty during three days of Eid and keep the city clean. Similarly, the administrations of Nishtar, Children Complex and Civil hospitals also cancelled the holidays of emergency staff while the consultants of all wards are asked to stay on call. The Punjab Government has directed the heads of all hospitals not to leave their respective stations so that the hospital system could be run effectively in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has issued a special directive to all law enforcing agencies, asking them to make foolproof security arrangements on eve of Eid with a view to averting any untoward incident. Security sources said that all the district administrations have also been asked to make arrangements for installation of walkthrough gates and close circuit cameras at the venues for Eid congregations. Similarly, the security of religious leaders is beefed up while additional police force is deployed at VVIP routes. The security agencies have also launched a search operation under which all guest houses and hotels are being checked while ban on use of loudspeaker and display of arms has also been implemented strictly.
Meanwhile, traffic police and Health Department have also evolved Eid plan. According to details, the traffic police have declared a number of routes one-way while special squads have been formed to control one-wheeling in the city especially on flyovers.
 Similarly, the traffic cops have been directed not to challan any vehicle till Eid.
On the other hand, Nishtar Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Ashiq Malik has cancelled the Eid holidays of entire medical staff including doctors, nurses and paramedics. Similarly, as many as 250 beds have been allocated in emergency ward and surgical units to cope with any emergency during Eid holidays.
