A number of special persons staged a sit-in here at DCO Office Chowk against unemployment and lack of educational and health facilities.
They were holding placards and banners inscribed with their demands. Rahim Yar Khan Deaf and Dumb Association President Ikramul Haq Khan told the media men that there were 315 special persons in the city. “Of them, seven are graduates, 10 intermediate and the remaining are matriculate and all are jobless.”
He said that the special people could get education up to class VIII. “For matriculation and intermediate they have to go to Bahawalpur and for graduation and masters they go to Multan or Lahore.”
He said that the special people were not treated properly at government hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Association Secretary-General Muhammad Aadil Ashraf said that there was no vocational institute for deaf and dumb women in the city. He said that a dumb youth, Muhammad Asif, got first position in the Punjab in graduation and received Rs100,000 prize and a laptop from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif “but he is still jobless”. He demanded the government solve their problems on a priority basis.
