KARACHI - The Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) apprehended two operatives of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a raid on a house in Shah Latif Town on Wednesday. Explosives, a suicide vest and weapons and were also recovered from them. According to AEC chief SSP Chauhdhry Aslam, the alleged terrorists, who had been found involved in terror activities in Karachi, were plotting further attacks. The official said that before joining Hakimullah Mehsud Group (TTP), the two terrorists were associated with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvis Qari Abid Iqbal Mehsud Group. They had sent at least nine youths to South Waziristan for training. Since then, police were looking for them. Identified as Noman alias Ganja and Asim Mehsud alias Ajmal, the terror suspects were said to be experts in preparing and training suicide bombers. Twenty-five kilos of explosives, a suicide jacket, two detonators, 35-feet long detonating wire and two kalashnikovs were recovered from them. A hit list, comprising names of several officials of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), police, government functionaries and leaders of political and religious parties, was also seized. But the names it contained were not disclosed. One of their associates, namely Asadullah alias Arshad, had lost his life in an explosion in Shah Latif area in March this year when he was on his way to end the life chapter of a man, namely Mubarak Ahmed, a member of Ahmedi community. The arrested terrorists also confessed to have killed Ameer Hussain Shah, a cleric of Jamia Masjid Ghousia in Shah Latif area in January 2010. Besides, they also killed two persons, namely Ghanam Gul and Imran alias Ibrahim, on the suspicion that he was a police informer. They had also hatched a plan to free their over one dozen associates, including Ataullah, Raheemullah, Ziauddin Mehsud alias Khan Mohammad and Akram Lahori, from the Karachi Central Jail in April 2011. But they could not pose any danger due to heightened security at the jail. Deployment of city wardens ordered : Administrator Gulberg Town Mohammed Nazeer Lakhani on Wednesday ordered deployment of city Wardens around Government Girls Apwa College in the town to keep an eye on rogues. He stated this during a meeting with college management officials. He said practical steps were required in order to raise education standard at the college. Administrator said provision of basic facilities to the college could not be ignored. He said the Sindh Government is looking after the college as town administration do not have such authority.
