MULTAN - The reports regarding presence of dengue larva at 25 different spots in Multan city have terrified the residents and the Health Department teams have launched fogging drive to kill the insect.
Special dengue spray teams launched fogging campaign in Hassan Prwana Colony, Nawan Shehr, Abdali Road, trading centres on Abdali Road and adjoining areas and also distributed literature on dengue prevention.
Over 32 patients infected with dengue virus have so far been brought to Nishtar Hospital Multan out of which at least two belong to Multan city area. A 29-year-old patient namely Muhammad Wasif, a resident of New Gulgasht, was declared dengue positive on Saturday while another resident of Gulgasht was also brought to the hospital with dengue fever a few days back.
However, Nishtar Hospital sources said that majority of the 32 patients brought to the hospital belong to suburban areas of Multan like Khanewal, Mian Channu, Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan and majority of them travelled to Lahore.
WORLD HEART DAY SEMINAR: Speakers at a World Heart Day seminar warned on Saturday that the ratio of deaths because of heart diseases rose to an alarming level, making heart diseases the biggest enemies of human lives in Pakistan. Addressing the seminar, head of Multan Institute of Cardiology Dr Altaf Rana, Dr Ijaz Ahmad, Dr Tariq Abbas and others said that the increase in number of patients suffering from heart diseases in recent years was highly alarming. They asked the people to avoid oily and junk food and make regular exercise an integral part of their lives.
Earlier, the doctors, paramedical staff and patients of MIC staged a walk and marched up to Multan Press Club. The participants of the walk were holding placards inscribed with slogans regarding creation of awareness on heart diseases.
UHS declares admission schedule: The University of Health Sciences Lahore has declared the schedule for admissions to medical and dental colleges on Saturday. According to the schedule, the students holding 80 per cent or more marks are eligible to apply for the admissions on open merit while handicaps, residents of marginalized areas and Choolistan will apply against seats allocated under quota for their respective categories.
The prospectus and admission forms are available at UHS Lahore, Nishtar Medical College Multan and Rawalpindi Medical College for free. As per schedule, the registration for hafiz-e-Quran test will be open between October 3 and 5 at UHS Lahore while the test will take place between October 7 and 12 at the same venue.
The prospective candidates can submit their admission kits between October 21 and 26 while the medical test of handicap students will be held between November 4 and 7. The first merit list of MBBS will be displayed on November 16 while the classes will commence from December 2. Similarly, the merit list of BDS will be displayed on December 24 and classes will begin from January 15, 2014.
Pledge to end crime: Lawlessness and rising crime could not be tolerate in any way, said the newly-posted District Police office Ch Muhammad Saleem has vowed that tangible steps will be taken to eliminate the crime and ask the police officers to utilise their energies to materialise the dream. He was speaking at a reception held in his honour by the business community here the other day. The DPO posed a question as to how it possible for a small number of police force to protect about 100 villages, adding shortage of police personnel was the main reason behind the rising of crime.
