LAHORE - Member Provincial Assembly Dr Ferzana Nazeer has said the issue of provision of social security cards to all the brick kiln workers will be raised in the assembly. She was speaking at a seminar organised by Bonded Labor Liberation Front Pakistan (BLLF) at a local hotel on Thursday. Representatives of Human Rights Commission and Working Women Organization participated in the seminar. On the occasion, she also promised to raise the wage of workers from Rs665 to Rs 1000 per thousand brick. Punjab Employee Social Security Institution Director General Tariq Awan said deadline given by the Supreme Court for registration of brick kilns is about to end.
“If brick kiln owners do not cooperate, we will use force for their registration,” he said. He said the institution needed sign of owners for issuance of cards. He said the teams would process security cards on the spot. Former District Labour Officer Sheikh Sabir suggested issuance of social security cards having no expiry date. BLLF General Secretary Ghulam Fatima said social security cards should also be issued to the women workers. Program Manager Mahar Safdar Ali said out of 2.3 million workers, only 900 have been provided the cards.
