MQM may convey budget proposals today

ISLAMABAD - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is most likely to convey its proposals regarding the upcoming federal budget 2011-12 to the government today (Monday). An MQM delegation led by Dr Farooq Sattar will meet Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh to discuss partys budget proposals with him, MQM sources told TheNation. Besides other proposals, the sources said, most of their suggestions would be same to partys nine-point agenda which it announced couple of month before. Senior members of the party in their internal meetings have discussed in length the budget proposals mainly regarding to agricultural tax, floods surcharge, tax collection and other issues, said the sources. According to the partys nine-point agenda, it had asked for economic reforms in the country with taxation of agricultural income at the top. It was also demanded to impose agricultural income tax to generate revenue of Rs 200 billion per annum for the government. It was also in the nine-point agenda that this government could get Rs 680 billion by taxing the landlord of the country, the sugar mafia and by controlling corruption in FBR. When contacted, a senior party member said that Muttahidas delegation would meet Minister for Finance on Monday to discuss budget related issues.
