ISLAMABAD - After alarmed by the growing inflow of drugs from Afghanistan to Pakistan, Ministry of Narcotics Control has decided to propose the federal government to increase number of check posts installed at Pak-Afghan border Yes, it is true that high-ups of the ministry have agreed to propose the federal govt as well as provincial govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to install more check posts on the border to intercept inflow of drugs from western boarder, an official of Ministry told TheNation on Saturday. He, however, declined to reveal further details in this regards. As a matter of fact, 150 metric tons of heroin is smuggled into country from Afghanistan through Pak-Afghan border every year. According to unofficial data, 80 metric tons is consumed in country while rest of 70 metric tons is smuggled outside through different channels. Although it is a very difficult task to seal the 2,500km-long Pakistan-Afghanistan border, however, high-ups of Ministry of Narcotics Control believe that enhanced security check would ensure better check on smuggling, said the official.
