The National Accountability Bureau has directed its regional bureaus and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to conduct inspections of medical dental colleges. According to PMDC officials, the Deputy Chairman NAB has directed all its regional bureaus to notify the committees for the inspection of medical / dental colleges by June 5, 2013.It was decided in a meeting held on May 23 at the NAB headquarter in a case of the corruption and corrupt practices by the Ex Registrar Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Akbar referred to NAB Rawalpindi for authorization for inquiry under NAO which is under process 8 NAB Rawalpindi. Furtherance to this, it was required by the prevention committee that the inspection of medical/dental colleges may be conducted by the PM&DC with a representative from NAB to look into the matter of quantum jump in the number of medical/colleges from 36 to 78. The administrator of PM&DC was also asked to notify the committee for inspections latest by April 12 to NAB to execute its functions on April 9 but to date the Council has failed to notify the committee for the inspections. As certain inspections of the medical colleges have been conducted by the PM&DC without involving the NAB due to which Deputy Chairman NAB has directed all the regional bureaus of NAB to conduct site inspection of the medical colleges as per the list provided by the PM&DC.–Staff Reporter
