CJP seeks report on stoning

ISLAMABAD - Taking notice of the stoning to death of a woman outside the Lahore High Court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani sought report from inspector general of Punjab police within two days.
According to media reports published three days ago, a 25-year-old woman Farzana Iqbal was stoned to death by her father, two brothers and former fiancée outside the Lahore High Court in a so-called ‘honour killing’ for marrying the man she loved.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had already taken notice of the incident and ordered for taking action.
It was further ordered that the killers be brought to justice and the police officers, who were silent bystanders, be punished for aiding and abetting the crime through their inaction to dispense justice to victim.
Meanwhile, the chief justice also took notice on press clippings of different newspapers dated 30.05.2014, containing the details of the death of an overseas Pakistani in Malaysian jail and non-cooperation of embassy of Pakistan at Malaysia. The CJP has called report from secretary ministry of foreign affairs within three days.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered Punjab officials to take “immediate action” over the brutal murder of the pregnant woman bludgeoned to death outside a top court. Nawaz Sharif ordered Punjab Chief Minister, his brother Shahbaz Sharif, to act. “I am directing the chief minister to take immediate action.”
Shahbaz Sharif, meanwhile, has directed that the case should be heard in an anti-terrorism court. This should mean it moves more quickly than in an ordinary court, where cases can drag on for years.
