Fazl urges federal govt to abstain from military offensive in NWA

PESHAWAR  - Central Chief Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has urged the federal government to abstain from any military offensive in North Waziristan Agency and take serious steps for initiating dialogue process with Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) by including representative tribal jirga.
"The tribal people will no more tolerate killing of their elders, destruction of their mosques and homes, damaging of their schools and displacement of their children in military operation. This is the right time for Islamabad to think and rethink on the repercussions of military operation in the tribal areas," he remarked while addressing the grand tribal jirga organised to pay homage to slain tribal elder Malik Qadir Khan here at the Neshtar Hall Peshawar.
The jirga was also attended by PPP Senior leader Rahim Dad Khan, Central Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq, JUI-F Provincial Ameer Sheikh Amanullah Khan, JUI-F Central Naib Ameer Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, JUI-F Information Secretary Abdul Jalil Jan, son of slain tribal leader Malik Qadir Khan, Malik Shah Nawaz Khan, MNA Shaji Gul Afridi and former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani.
"We do not need war and government must think that who will get advantage of the military operation in North Waziristan," he asked, saying certain forces want to see Pakistan a destabilised and failed state.
He said that every one knows that even Britain, Soviet Union, France and now the United State were failed to occupy nations through brutal use of force while in the past every conflict had been resolved with the help of dialogue.
"The parliament of the country is a representative body of 180 million people and this representative body unanimously passed resolutions in 2011 and 2012 for resolving the issue of militancy through dialogue process," he recalled.
He went on to say that tribal people would no more tolerate military operation in their areas as thousands of them are still living in Jalozi camp and in other scattered parts of the country.
He appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to start serious dialogue and include representatives of tribal people in the process as these people could play eminent role in the negotiation process. He also urged the PM to stop army from launching any military operation in North Waziristan Agency, as this operation would not be in favour of tribal people and Pakhtuns.
Addressing on the occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami Central Ameer Siraj-ul-Haq said that the ruler who could not provide protection to their people has no rights to rule the masses. He said that 24,000 innocent people have been killed in Karachi and more than 50,000 killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.
He questioned whether any MNA would spend a night with the affected people of military operation who are living in Jalozai camp. He said that children of upper class are studying in foreign countries while the children of poor have no facility of tents in their schools.
He paid tribute to the brave tribal people who despite suffering army operation did not raise anti-Pakistan slogans. However, he warned the government not to disturb these patriotic people who are playing the role of a defence shield for the rest of country.
The tribal jirga was also addressed by PPP leader Rahim Dad Khan, JUI-F Vice Ameer Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, Akram Khan Durrani and other tribal elders.

Later through a unanimous resolution, the tribal elders demanded the federal government to immediately approve a handsome package for the reconstruction of FATA institutions, removed extra check posts from the main routes to facilitate travelling of people and ensure compensation to victims whose family members are martyred in various incidents of terrorism.
