ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed the Ministry of Interior to share real-time, actionable and credible information with the provinces to effectively check the threat of terrorist activities across the country.
The Prime Minister gave these directions while chairing a briefing on the working of the Ministry of Interior and its attached organisations during his visit to the Ministry here on Friday afternoon.
The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Interior to ensure that the announcements made in the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package which fall under the purview of the Ministry be completed within the stipulated time frame.
He further told the Ministry officials that their actions in protecting the lives and properties of masses would be visible to the public and reminded them that it was the fundamental duty of the Government to ensure foolproof security to its citizens.
The Prime Minister said that all the departments working under the Ministry of Interior should apprise the public of their performance and achievements through media.
The Prime Minister said the Federal Government was mindful of the gravity of the situation and had established National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) as a focal institution to coordinate and unify all national counter extremism efforts and ensure the implementation of 3-D and 3-R policies.
The Prime Minister hoped that by incorporating these parameters, NACTA would come up with a viable strategy and best policy options for dealing with the law & order situation in the country. He directed NACTA to involve media persons in its research endeavours besides involving other provincial stakeholders.
The Prime Minister said the war against terrorism was waged to free the people of Pakistan from the menace of terrorism that had adversely affected every segment of society. “After exhausting all avenues of peaceful negotiations,” he added, “the Government was left with no other option but to engage in military actions in Swat and South Waziristan”.
The Prime Minister said Malakand operation had been internationally hailed as a successful operation. He said the success of this operation was not possible without mobilising political and moral support from the people.
While paying rich tributes to the brave Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies that had struck the core of hard-line militant activity, the Prime Minister said that the stakes had become higher and consequently, there was a surge in acts of terrorism, which he called desperate terrorism.
