Pakistan Posts adopts advance communication system

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Keeping pace with the changing communication markets, Ministry of Pakistan Postal Services (PPS) has introduced new communication and Information Technology in the country to facilitate its valued customers.
Director General Pakistan Post Muhammad Ahmad Mian told APP that the ministry has introduced 100 “small and smart” express centres in the country in 2009 to facilitate their customers.
“These centres established in different cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Sakhar, Quetta and Haidrabad,” he said.
He said that the customers are getting the facility of remittance of money through western union and acceptance of utility bills in these “small and smart” express centers, hence these centers will provide galaxy of services to the customers under one roof.
“All these postal facilities to customers including urgent mail service, fax money order, international speed post, registry and parcel would also be provided at these centres. Money transfer facilities would also be available at these centres”, Director General Pakistan Post said.
He said that Pakistan Post has a broad and varied role to play beyond provision of communication link for individuals and businesses.
“Keeping pace with the changing communications market, Pakistan Post is emphasizing in the use of new communication and information technologies to move beyond what is traditionally regarded as its core postal business”, he added.
He said that Pakistan Post has normal money order traffic of about Rs.6 to 6.5 million per annum.
The Pakistan Post has already distributed Rs.9 million money orders of Income Support Programme being run by Punjab government.
:Pakistan Post has established 30 new post offices in Balochistan and mobile money order services, customer services also introduced in Balochistan,” he said.
He said that the Ministry has also established 81 polio centres in different postal offices of the country and actively participated in the 3 days campaign of the polio.
Pakistan Post has issued 16 stamps on different themes and occasion the year 2009 and the income of these stamps are deposited to Prime Minister fund,” he added.
