Pakistan for making ECO trade agreement more meaningful

ISLAMABAD - A five-member delegation of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) led by Muhammad Yahya P Maroofi, Secretary General of ECO, called on the Commerce Secretary here at the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.
The Secretary General briefed the meeting about the progress made by the ECO in strengthening cooperation among the member countries in the fields of trade, transport and financial sector. He welcomed the support of Pakistan in making ECO a more robust and economically vibrant organization. He commended the coordinating role being played by Pakistan in ECO Trade Agreement. Referring to the ECO reinsurance company, the Secretary General informed that Pakistan has ratified the Agreement and may persuade the other ECO countries to ratify Agreement.
The Secretary Commerce expressed his optimism about the progress made by the ECO in the areas of trade and economic cooperation. He extended Pakistans full support to make the ECO trade agreement more meaningful for promotion of trade in the region.
He appraised the delegation about the Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement and proposed that Pakistan plans to leverage the Agreement as a legal Framework to conclude similar Agreements within the region.
