CCP issued 127 show-cause notices in two years

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has served as many as 127 show cause notices on the prima facie cartelization and abuse of dominance by various sectors since its creation in November 2007.
Of those, 54 notices were served in year 2007-08 whereas 73 were served in year 2008-09, Chairman CCP, Khalid A. Mirza told reporters here on Thursday.
The commission took action against the companies abusing their dominant position or undertaking deceptive marketing practices and fixing prices, he said.
He said the commission has moved against five cartels including cement, banks, chartered accountants, stock exchanges and newspapers during the time under review.
It has also taken action against fertilizer companies, Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and Pakistan International Airlines, adding that commission would hold one more hearing in the case of PSM to give final decision.
Khalid Mirza said that the commission has already held two hearings on sugarmills case and would hold another hearing on December 16.
He said the commission has also issued six policy notices besides conducting two public hearings during this period.
