PIA daily wagers seek CJ's help for confirmation

KARACHI - The contract employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take action against the delaying tactics of airline administration in making them confirmed.
Chairman All Pakistan Daily Wagers Action Committee Waheed Iqbal Butt in a press statement here appealed to the CJ to provide them justice and take action against the biased attitude of the PIA administration towards the contract employees.
He said that the contract employees are given Rs 3000 per month at some places in the airline which is a clear violation of the govt rules of minimum wage of Rs 6000. Moreover, the MD and Director Operation of the airline use delaying tactics and neglect the requirements of the contract employees, he added.
He further said that the agitation and sense of injustice in such huge number of daily wagers working in every department of PIA has been increased due to the unnecessary delay in making them confirm.
The case of daily wagers at PIA has become stagnant as it does not seem to be resolved despite the fact that Ministry of Defence had issued a reminder notice to the PIA administration last year suggesting for the confirmation of service of all contract/daily wage employees of PIA, he added.
He said that the letter was issued on 17th of June, 2008, to the MD PIAC seeking requisite report without further delay in the above mentioned subject for onward transmission to PM’s Secretariat.
The letter given to the daily wagers by MD on 14th of July, 2009, stated, ‘Your case is being considered by higher authorities. As soon as we get clearance from the relevant authorities your case will be decided, he added.
Moreover, some 1400 employees of PIA are to get retired with timely intervals till June 2010, and the new appointments are being made on political basis, and it is evident that the daily wagers will not get their share even after spending many years working in the air line, he said.
