LAHORE - IPDFs role in developing the infrastructure of Pakistan is commendable. However, policy and implementation gap, institutional capacity, resistance from opponents, limited financial sector capacity and lack of coordination between the center and provinces are the major hindrances towards the take-off of IPDF's projects says Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Managing Director of World Bank at a high level round-table meeting of World Bank (WB), Infrastructure Project Development Facility (IPDF), relevant partners and stakeholders in Islamabad.
This high-level round-table meeting was also attended by Ghulam Murtaza Satti, Advisor to Prime Minister, Riaz Ahmed Khan, Advisor to PM on Water & Power, Rab Nawaz, Sect Planning & Development department, Adil Anwar, CEO IPDF and Dr Assad Ali Shah, Convener, Think Tank, PEC and other senior officials of various government and private sector.
Government is keen to develop infrastructure nationwide. In this regard, IPDF has 22 notable projects in the pipeline, which shall take 33 percent of Public Sector Development Projects PSDP's financial burden. 3 mega projects shall be offered to private investors this financial year.
It was categorically noted that the supporting factors, which make projects of such magnitude a success are also being strengthened.
Few factors worth mentioning are stable regime, pro business investment policies, deregulation, privatization and liberalization policies that are being implemented.
However, the slow channels of bureaucracy and complex dispute resolution are slowing down the implementation of IPDF's projects.
