KCCI, traders to evaluate arson losses of Boulton

KARACHI - The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has organised an important emergent meeting with the representatives and victims of affected markets situated at MA Jinnah Road, to apprise them about the notification and constitution of Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee and to consult them for defining modus operandi to file their claims.
Meeting was chaired by Chairman, Businessmen Group Siraj Kassam Teli and Co-chaired by Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Investment and Chairman of Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee and President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad.
The house resolved that Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) strongly condemns the tragic incident of bomb-blast on 28th Dec followed by reducing the shops and markets to ashes by anti-social elements situated at MA Jinnah Road.
For rehabilitation and relief of victims, the House resolved and expressed satisfaction that for relief to losses (financial/ material/ property) of victims, the authorized representatives of all affected markets will be consulted. It was also resolved that KCCI/ Committee will assess the status of the buildings which will be demolished for reconstruction.
Earlier, Siraj Teli and Zubair Motiwala comprehensively briefed the House about the constitution of Committee, its terms of references and mode of execution. It was agreed that all the claims will be materialized with consultation of authorized representatives of affected markets, after comprehensive assessment of survey and claims. The victims/ affectees will selected their representative and will authorize and empower him to liaise with the committee.
Pertinent to mention here that, earlier, Chairman of Businessmen Group (BMG) and former President-KCCI, Siraj Kassam Teli, President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad, Vice Chairmen & former Presidents-KCCI, Tahir Khaliq, Haroon Farooki, Anjum Nisar, former President-KCCI, A.Q. Khalil, Senior Vice President-KCCI, Rasheeduddin Rashid, Vice President-KCCI, Javed Ahmed Vohra, Managing Committee Members of KCCI, Abdul Majeed Memon, Chairman, Special Committee for Small Traders-KCCI and Ahmed Chinoy, President, All Pakistan Memon Federation, welcomed the constitution of high-powered committee viz. Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee headed by Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Investment.
They lauded the personal attention and efforts of President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ibad, Federal Finance Minister, Shaukat Tarin, Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, Federal Minister, Dr. Farooq Sattar and City Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal for taking serious note of the grave incident and their response for relief of the victims. They appreciated that the committee will include business leaders and victims as co-opted members where compensation is being assessed and disbursed.
They anticipated that the committee will take all-out measures and initiatives to verify the list. It will survey for evaluation of damages and claims, to asses and approve the amount of compensation to be paid to victims.
