Weekly inflation for lowest income group further up

ISLAMABAD  - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on August 7, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered increase of 0.50 percent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 214.72 as against 213.65 registered in the previous week, according to data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) here.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

The SPI for the combined group registered increase of 0.48 per cent by rising from 206.61 in the previous week to 207.60 in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 31.72 percent.

The SPI for the groups falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001- 12000 and above 12000 witnessed increase of 0.49, 0.50 and 0.46 percent respectively over the previous week.

During the week under review average prices of 8 items registered decrease, while that of 27 items increased with the remaining 18 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included bananas, moong pulse (washed), vegetable ghee (loose), wheat (average quality), sugar, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin) and rice basmati (broken).

The items which registered increase in their prices included, sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng (Bata), onions, LPG( 11 kg cylender.), tomatoes, garlic, potatoes, chicken (farm), cooked beef, gur, red chillies, firewood, mash pulse (washed), shirting, egg hen (farm), beef, curd, washing soap (Nylon), milk (fresh), masoor pulse (washed), gram pulse (washed), mutton, wheat flour (average quality), mustard, tea (prepared), rice irri-6 and kerosene.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, bread plain (mid size), milk powdered (Nido), salt (powdered), tea (packet), cooked dal, cigarettes k-2, coarse latha, lawn, voil printed, sandal gents (Bata), electricity bulb (60wats), match box, bath soap (Lifebouy), gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges, (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
