Loadshedding not decreasing despite 485MW power increase

LAHORE - The Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has said the power outages reduced significantly to around 2,200 megawatt as the outflow of water has been escalating due to increase in indent by IRSA, resulting into an increase of 485 MW only in hydel generation as compared to last year the same day.
But the factual position is that Lahorites are experiencing intermittent power breakdowns after every one hour. It is to be noted that two days earlier when whether was pleasant, the intervals between outages were long but with the uprising of mercury these intermissions were occurring after every hour, which questioned Pepco claims of reduced loadshedding.
In a press release the Pepco said that the reservoir in Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma Barrage are maintaining their sturdy level. It further said that power outages reduced considerably because the IPPs, GENCOs and rental power plants recorded a rise of 435, 129 and 83 megawatts respectively as compared to the previous year for June 8, which amply reflects that production of power generation is on the higher side when matched with the previous year.
Press release said that due to better management and improved generation, the power shut down situation has been improved for the last couple of days. On June 8, the electricity demand rose upto 15,272 MW, due to which load management of 2192 MW was carried out. While on June 8 last year the load of 4,303 MW was managed which clearly indicates the improvement in power supply.
Mercury dropped at night though weather was little harsh in the day but the load management was confined to 2192 MW. Last year, same day load management of 4303 MW was carried out.
The demand was also slashed to 14697 MW. Export to KESC this year, yesterday was 710 MW and delivery to the company on the same day last year was 560 MW.
Meanwhile, PEPCO has issued clear instructions to its distribution companies for speeding-up the construction and maintenance work. New transformers will be installed and upgraded. Faulty wires will be replaced and new poles will be erected to facilitate smooth power supply. Due to this maintenance programme, low voltage and power interruption problems will be tackled more effectively.
PEPCO alongwith managing the increasing load, is also conscious about the control of electricity theft. For this purpose a special task force has been constituted and a complete monitoring cell has been established in PEPCO Head Quarter. The complaints about electricity theft can be launched in the PEPCO complaint cell and on e-mail address pepco_emc@yahoo.com. Coordination with Government Agencies is also being carried out to control the Electricity Theft. PEPCO urges utmost cooperation on the part of valued consumers to preserve national resource of electricity.
It is pertinent to note that the electricity export to KESC was 710 MW whereas the last year on the same day it was 560 MW.
