CDWP to take up Rs38.625 billion projects tomorrow

KARACHI - At least 10 development projects worth Rs38.625 billion will be taken up by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in its meeting tomorrow (Monday).
Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Sardar Asif Ahmed Ali will preside over the meeting of CDWP in Islamabad, while Additional Chief Secretaries of Planning and Development Departments of all provinces and senior officials of the federal ministries will attend the meeting to discuss the projects. It is pertinent to mention here that the last meeting of CDWP was held on 30th of last month. However, just after the break of 10 days, the federal govt has organized the CDWP meeting in Islamabad to discuss the development schemes.
According to agenda of the meeting available with The Nation, the CDWP will take up project of Improving Human Development Indicators in Pakistan (NCHD) with estimated cost of Rs6.167b for approval. The project would be initiated by Cabinet Division for bringing improvement in education sector. Meanwhile, the other project of Cabinet Division, Construction of 2nd Hanger at Heliport Islamabad, with estimated cost of Rs349.276m would also be discussed by the CDWP.
A project of Interior Division, Hardware and Software Up-gradation of National Data Warehouse installed at NADRA headquarters Islamabad with cost of Rs225.50m is also on the agenda of CDWP meeting. The Up-gradation of NADRA Swift Registration Centers with Rs257.93 will also be taken up by meeting.
The CDWP will take up a revised scheme of Interior Division for the construction of 120 bed hospital for the troops of Pakistan Rangers Sindh at Karachi with an amount of Rs238.267m. The Sindh govt had got the services of Pakistan Rangers during early of 90s for maintenance of law and order in Sindh, especially in Karachi. But due to shortage of cops at province level, the provincial govt has decided to not withdraw the services of this federal govt force.
It may be noted her that the Sindh government allocates at least Rs200 million each year for Rangers, deployed in the province while various hostels and other government buildings are also occupied by the Rangers.
According to agenda of the meeting, a project-Master Plan for Preservation & Restoration of Shahdara Complex of Monuments-with an estimated cost of Rs461.837m would be also discussed in the meeting. A mega project of Construction and Planning of Rural Access Roads in the country with Rs29.472b would also be taken up for approval, while the major portion of the cost of this project will be borne by Asian Development Bank.
Meanwhile, other projects including the Inland Navigation (PC2) with Rs450m, Restructuring of the Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development formerly Foreign Trade Institute of Pakistan with Rs411.110m and Construction of 150 beds DHQ hospital at Pallandri in AJK with Rs591.463m would also be discussed in the meeting.
