GUJRANWALA - President Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khalid Mahmood Chadha has urged the government to initiate mega projects in the city which has been generating Rs40 billion for national exchequer annually and demanded to restore funding for GTDM, Ceramics Centre and Flyover project besides establishing Expo Centre.
He stated this while addressing a Meet the Press programme at GCCI auditorium. Former President Rana Nasir Mahmood, Vice Presidents Mohammad Azher Aslam and Mohammad Iqbal Butt also accompanied him.
The President said that Gujranwala has been producing 9pc of national production and more than five hundred thousand workers are getting employment in these units.
Despite that Gujranwalites are facing hardships in their daily lives only due to ignorance of federal and provincial governments.
He hailed the role of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif in NFC award and demanded same attitude from him in developing this city.
The city is in the centre of industrial triangle of Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala and an Expo Centre is need of the hour to promote exports from the region, Chadha demanded.
He also demanded to convert Export Processing Zone into Small Industries Estate as duties had already been minimised in the country. He hoped that working on Gujranwala Dry Port project would be expedited as it already had been approved by the federal government.
President Chamber criticised loadshedding of gas as 850 industrial units have been disconnected by SNGPL without any prior notice which caused huge unemployment.
