CDWP to take up Rs85.386b projects tomorrow

KARACHI - The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will take up 30 uplift schemes involving over Rs85.386 billion expenditures on September 17 (tomorrow).
The national body will meet in the chair of Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sardar Asif Ahmed Ali, while chairman Planning and Development Board of Punjab govt, Additional Chief Secretaries of Planning & Development Departments of Sindh, NWFP, Baluchistan and AJK, Secretary Planning and Development Department of newly formed government of Gilgit-Baltastan and officials concerned of federal ministries would also participate in the meeting in Islamabad.
It is expected that CDWP will give final nod of construction of new Supreme Court Building at Islamabad (2nd Revised) with Rs1.069b and furnishing works of Supreme Court of Pakistan at Islamabad with Rs84.874 million.
However, the construction of additional family suits for members of Parliament including servant quarters block at sector G-5/2 at Islamabad with heavy amount of Rs3.042b and introduction of Personal Access Control System for the security of the Parliament House Building Islamabad with Rs64.663 million will also be taken up by CDWP. Similarly, four projects of Transport and Communication sector such as construction of bridge across the Indus River connecting Larkana and Khairpur with Rs9.225b, Constriction of bridge across Indus River linking Kandhkot located on the National Highway with Ghotki with Rs6.271b, construction of Rathoa-Haryam bridge across Reservoir Channel on Mirpur-Islamgarh with Rs5.819b and up-gradation and remodeling of Southern Bypass Peshawar with Rs3.3b would take up by meeting.
Meanwhile, a development package of oneb rupees for terror affected Swat of NWFP is also part of agenda of CDWP meeting.
A project for making provision of subsidy to scholarships abroad under Cultural Exchange Programme with Rs495 million and five year Population Welfare Programme (2009-2014) consist on nutrition, population and social planning including federal activity with Rs5.098b, Punjab programme with Rs18.825b and Sindh programme with Rs12.758b will be taken up by meeting.
Meanwhile, the CDWP will also consider a project for processing of Copper at Baluchistan involving cost of Rs4.619b. Though, the provincial government will sponsor the project, but it has been assured that federal government will provide necessary funds through special grants for this project, however, the Strategic Organization of federal government will be executing agency.
According to the profile of the project, this scheme will create a facility for processing 5000 tons per day of copper ore to produce copper metal, and other valuables such as Gold, Silver, Molybdenum and Sulphuric Acid etc Reko Diq. The project will be for the production of copper and gold ingots only, official said, adding that a separate project however will be required for conversion of ingots into value added products such as sheets, pipes and rods etc as per requirement.
Official said that this project is estimated to cost Rs4.619b including foreign exchange component of Rs1.925b. However, the recurring cost of the project would be Rs1.816b after completion, while it will be completed in four years and will provide employment to 525 persons.
