Trade ministry assures end to gold import duty
Federal Trade Ministry assured to nullify the duty levied on the import of gold, a private TV reported Thursday. National Commodity Exchange Director Sameer Ahmed said the illegal import of the gold has been on the rise owing to the duty imposed on its imports, which is causing loss to the national exchequer. Sameer said he is in continuous contact with officials at Trade Ministry regarding the end to the duty on gold imports; he hoped early relief on this soon. The trading volume of golds future contracts at commodity exchange will increase manifold, as a result of termination of duty on gold imports.
