New York oil price falls below 39 dollars a barrel

The price of New York crude oil sank under 39 dollars per barrel on Thursday, hitting the lowest point for four and a half years as traders fretted over weak global demand despite an OPEC output cut. On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), light sweet crude for delivery in January dived to 38.34 dollar a barrel -- which was last seen in July 2004.
