The state-run Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has reissued a tender to export 25,000 tonnes of super basmati rice from the 2008/09 crop, a TCP spokesman said on Friday. The TCP has asked foreign buyers to submit bids by Jan. 21 which will be opened the same day.
Bids have been invited for minimum lots of 1,000 tonnes, the spokesman said. The TCP had issued a tender in October to sell 25,000 tonnes of super basmati rice but received no bids. The rice on offer was bought from farmers last season but could not be exported after objections from traders prompted a government decision not to export the grain, the TCP spokesman said.
Pakistan is expecting output of 6.4 million tonnes of rice this year and is aiming to export up to 3.5 million tonnes in the financial year ending on June 30.
