Karachi businessmen urged to invest in Punjab

Published: November 20, 2009

LAHORE - Consultant to Chief Minister Punjab on Economic Affairs and Vice Chairman Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT), Pir Saad Ahsanuddin called on Karachi’s leading entrepreneurs and business heads to formalize the Punjab investment plan.
The plan was discussed with businesspeople from Karachi Stock market, Presidents of Multinational Private Sector Organizations, heads of business forums and leading trade related personalities in Karachi.
Pir Saad Ahsanuddin told the participants that inward investment is one of the cornerstones of PBIT because it brings with it its own network of foreign investments as well as creates opportunities for business to diversify by combining the competitive advantages of various regions.
He also urged the businessmen of Karachi for investment in Punjab as the province has vast sectoral opportunities in agro-food processing, dairy processing, textiles, and also augments the export capacity of Punjab’s productivity. They also discussed ways to convert Lahore into a hub of financial activity to assist in networking Pakistan through strong financial links between Punjab and Sindh. Pir Saad said that the close ties between the businesspeople in Lahore and Karachi should translate into efficiencies of scale in trade and for this PBIT has identified a list of specific projects for the investor groups.
