Cooking oil prices shoot up ahead of Eid

KARACHI - The prices of cooking oil and ghee shot up ahead of Eid, as the commodity rate witnessed a surge of up to Rs10 per kilogram at retail market in city.
According to market sources, the prices of 16 kilogram tin of cooking oil and ghee surged to Rs 1,675, showing a rise of Rs 85, while branded cooking oil and ghee in one kilogram packing have been increased by over Rs 10.
Market sources revealed that the prices of several other kitchen items have also been raised ahead of Eid to earn more and more profit.
They revealed that the cooking oil in lose packing which was available earlier in the market at Rs 85 is now being sold for Rs.105 per kg in retail market.
A dealer said that the cooking oil prices were increased due to rise in Soya bean oil prices in the international market.
Consumers said that the financial crisis in the country has badly affected the buying power of the general public in the country, and inflation and unemployment has reached its optimum level in the country. They said that the city government seemed to less interested in affairs of general public who are facing the burden of ever-increasing inflation and which has increased manifold ahead of Eid. They said that public is totally disappointed with the performance of their elected representatives who never care for them.
