PIA to absorb contractual staff into regular cadres
Published: June 28, 2009
KARACHI - The PIA Board of Directors met here on Saturday approved the absorption of contractual officers
into permanent employment effective from July 1, 2009, subject to their meeting the criteria for such absorption.
The meeting held under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister and PIA Chairman Ch Ahmed Mukhtar, was
attended by PIA MD Capt Aijaz Haroon, Syed Naseer Ahmed, Malik Nazir Ahmad, Javed Akhtar, Lt Gen (r)
Syed Athar Ali, Prof Mian Ijazul Hassan, Mubashir Iftikhar, Husain Lawai and Shaukat Ali Rana.
The board desired that PIA Investments Ltd which has a good experience of running the hotels as a core
business should manage the Airport Hotel on the same lines as it was managing Roosevelt Hotel, New York and
Scribe Hotel, Paris.
The board endorsed that as a socially responsible corporate organization, PIA was performing various welfare
and youth development activities. It approved the formation of a committee to integrate and institutionalise PIA’s
Corporate Social Responsibilities. The board reviewed the implementation status of the decisions taken earlier
and showed satisfaction on the actions taken by the management.
It said that in order to bring about sustainable improvements, management should take steps and work out
various strategies including cost cutting measures, formation of joint ventures and outsourcing of non-core
activities.
