NATO expects more than 5000 troops for Afghan war
NATO's chief is urging European and other allies to contribute more troops to the international force in Afghanistan, saying this is not just America's war. Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says he expects the allies to boost the NATO-led force by more than 5,000 soldiers. He spoke on Wednesday, hours after President Barack Obama announced the deployment of 30,000 new U.S. troops to the theater. Fogh Rasmussen says the best way to overcome widespread public opposition in Europe is by demonstrating progress in the war. This can be done by starting to transfer to Afghan control parts of the country where the security situation is good.
