Senior US officials to visit India

Published: June 02, 2009

WASHINGTON - US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns will visit India from June 10-13 for talks on promoting bilateral relations, the State Department spokesman said Monday.
Spokesman Robert Wood said that Burns would meet with senior government officials and private sector leaders to discuss a broad agenda to further strengthen partnership between the US and India.
Both the countries reached an agreement on civil nuclear cooperation in March 2006, under which New Delhi will get access to US technology in return for subjecting its civilian, not military, facilities for inspection.
The nuclear deal, considered a key part of former US President George Bush’s foreign policy legacy, is designed to solidify Washington’s relationship with India, considered a fast-emerging economic power.
