The United States embassy in Yemen has been closed in response to threats by al Qaeda and has instructed its Yemeni employees to stay away until further notice, a news agency citing the embassy and foreign diplomats reported on Sunday. "The U.S. Embassy in Sana'a is closed today, January 3, 2010, in response to ongoing threats by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) to attack American interests in Yemen," said a statement on the embassy website.
